smells like a latrine spirit…

“Everyone who is seriously involved in the pursuit of science becomes convinced that a spirit is manifest in the laws of the Universe - a spirit vastly superior to that of man.“ - Albert Einstein
The wikipedia entry on intelligent design states the following:
“The unequivocal consensus in the scientific community is that intelligent design is not science but pseudoscience.”
It seems as if Albert Einstein is no longer considered a part of the “scientific community”, along with the likes of David Bohm & Ervin Laszlo.
Reducing & limiting the concept of intelligent design to flat-earth theologians who believe the earth was created in 6 days a few thousand years ago smells like rank disinformation.

Have you seen the DVD, “What the Bleep….Down the Rabbit Hole..”
The subject is quantum physics. It’s full of interviews with the people “in the know” about the subject. I made it a permanent part of my library. It’s difficult for anyone who watches it to arrive at any conclusion other than intelligent design. I have an elementary understanding of quantum physics. All the same, it totally fascinates me. One of my favorite “principles” which they discuss is the principle that the observer changes what he observes by merely “observing it”. Wow! That still gives me the chills! We have such little idea of what is going on with most of the phenomena all around us.

“The greatest formal talent is worthless if it does not serve a creativity which is capable of shaping a cosmos” Uncle Albert E.
“To understand the Creator is not even equal to a light bulb understanding Thomas Edison.” Hendrik Andropov
“To understand the mind of the Creator we need to have creative minds.” Hendrik Andropov (OK, this one is a bit cheesy)
I personally don’t like the term “intelligent design” it is too technical and scientific. It reminds me of robotic engineering. God placed mankind in a position to gauge the unmeasurable. The universe leads to the source of mysteries. We look back to the origin, try and understand the moment before the primeval fireball. We calculate that the universe is expanding and try and explain into where it is expanding. Then we move on to Calabi-Yau dimensions and…. It is elegant, majestic and beautiful beyond words and mathematics. It’s the stuff of God!!
“The more the scientists discover the more wonder of God to embrace.” AH

FeotU- That brings up a good question. If the universe has been expanding since the “big bang”, what is it expanding “in”???? Wow, I just blew my own mind!!

yeah that’s one to really flip the noodle!

Intelligent design is magic and the designer is a magician. It’s a childish idea and it certainly isn’t science.

To use the word “childish” is most provocative and in my opinion uncalled for. It is a cheap shot at me and others for trying to deal with an authentic “parallax gap”, a Kantian “transcendental object” or even and more than likely what can be seen as the clear case of Lacan’s “objet petit a “. Even Albert Einstein had to admit to there being more than science. One has to be somewhat dim-witted not admit to the presence of an “X Factor” even if we can’t say for sure what it is. I will always respect the views of an atheist and will not attempt to convince you otherwise. Please respect the fact that I and others look beyond the mere Möbius strip of your mind and delve into magic, the supernatural, the subconscious, and at the same time not letting go of the laws of science. Maybe we are all guilty due to, as Zizek put it:”The subject’s awareness is an answer before the question.” And in the lines of Lacan: “The answer had to come first….the organism had to construct first the kind of knowledge that looks like the answers. The organism had to be able to produce that primordial knowledge, unsolicited, so that the process of knowing could be founded.” Let’s face it Zizek’s right when he says that we are “ -like Baron Munchhausen pulling himself out of the swamp by his own hair.”

hi bobx2×2.
regarding “intelligent design” equalling magic by a magician,
i’m not talking about the theologians dressed as scientists who want us to believe that the earth was created in 6 days around 5-6000 years ago.
if you want to explore the emerging holistic scientific paradigm, i’d suggest reading some of Einstein’s later writings, particularly those that came after his famous ERP experiment. Ervin Laszlo - who was twice nominated for his contribution to science & beyond in the 90’s - has written some great books that explore the implications of the new physics.
non-locality, observer effect, mystery of consciousness, zero point field etc, have been moving science into realms previously thought to be the domain of mystics and other “non-scientists”.
skepticism is an important part of our mental toolkit, but needs to be applied to all theories of the way things “are”. fundamentalists - materialist & religious - tend to avoid this process.
adios,
russ.

bobx2×2 is grown up.
bobx2×2 is scientific.
bobx2×2 offered up 2 sentances.
2 sentances is much, much more than 1.
bobx2×2 = bobbobbobbob.
bobbobbobbob is a funny name.

Nic, good point.
bobx2×2 also = 4 bob, or as u put it: bobbobbobbob.
bobx2×2 could be an AI Bot spammer.
lets see if he returns…
